Abstract

In global financial meltdown, the main impact of which is being felt mostly in the developed world, and the ripple effect had begun traveling to the developing world and the BRIC economies by middle of 2008. The BRIC economies, and especially India and China, are supposed to act as counter trend to enveloping global gloom in all areas of economy. The Indian economy is now firmly established as one of the world's foremost destinations for FDI, macro economic growth of India, is quickly be coming a magnet for international direct investment. After the financial and macroeconomic crises, India is now attracting interest from international direct investors. Various sectors are contributing in the growth of India, including Telecommunication sector. The Indian telecom market generated revenues of approximately USD 20 billion in 2006–07. It registered are venues of approximately 22 percent from 2002–03 to 2006–07. The revenues from 2006–07 to 2009–10 is expected to stabilise at 21 percent. The telecommunication sector is a very important sector for the sustainable growth of any country. In the developing countries like India FDI is playing a very important role in the overall growth of the country. This paper studies the trends of FDI in Telecommunication sector in India and the focus is on how much FDI has been attracted by this sector and what is the growth rate ofFDI in this sector.
