Forensic odontology is a specialty in dentistry, which occupies a primary niche with in the total spectrum of methods applied to medico legal identification. Each practitioner has a responsibility to understand the forensic implications associated with the practice of his profession. The purpose of this article is to give an insight into this specialty with an emphasis on recent trends widening its horizon from identification of victim of mass distruction to solving medicolegal cases pertaining to abuse of children and elderly.
