Victim Profile in Fatal Blunt Thoraco-Abdominal Injuries in Jaipur Region

Abstract

The study was conducted with the aim to highlight the victim profile in fatal blunt thoraco-abdominal trauma in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The study was an autopsy based observation of fatal blunt thoraco-abdominal injuries during October 2011 to September 2012. A male predominance (81%) was observed with a male-female ratio of 4:1. A total of 142 cases (76%) out of 200 fatalities were from the productive age group of 20–59 years with predominance of male population accounting for 130 (65%) of total cases. Of all types of unnatural deaths, a road traffic accidental death probably has the highest incidence worldwide. In this study, three quarter of fatalities (74%) were due to road accidents followed by 23 subjects (11.5%) who succumbed of an episode of fall from height further followed by 5% casualties owing to train accidents. Among vehicular accidents, two wheeler riders were the major victims (41%) out of which 69.5% were two-wheeler riders and rest 30.5% were pillion riders of two-wheeler vehicles.
