Abstract

Percutaneous central venous catheter insertion is becoming a routine procedure in ICU setting and also in emergency departments. A lost guide wire is hazardous. Yet, rare complications associated with central venous catheter insertion are totally preventable. This complication is likely to occur when performed by inexperienced, inattentive and inadequately supervised physicians. Its anticipation and adopting appropriate interventions are essential. Here we are presenting a case wherein a central venous catheter guide wire was lost from femoral vein to major veins of abdomen and thorax and which was recovered at postmortem examination
