The objective of this study is to know the Pattern of poisoning among children in NCR region of western U.P.
This retrospective study was conducted at Saraswathi Institute of Medical Sciences, Hapur, India. A total of 64 Patients with poisoning admied between Jan 2008 to Dec 2010. A total of 64 children up to the age of 12 years admitted for acute poisoning to Pediatrics emergency ward were included. All the details were collected regarding the particulars of child, parents, toxic substance involved. All the relevant investigations were done.
Maximum number of cases 43 (67.18%) were from the age group of 1–5 year. Male children were found more 41 (63.33%) in comparison to female child 23 (36.67%). Most common toxic substance involved were Kerosine oil 33 (51.11%) followed by therapeutic agent 11 (16.67%) and agriculture chemical 9 (14.44%). The most common systems involved were respiratory 26 (40.62%) CNS 18 (27.78%) and GIT 17 (26.61%). Most of the cases 50(77.78%) were discharged and 2 (3.33%) children died.
