Gotmaar: A Traditional Fatal Stone Pelting Fair

“Gotmaar” is a unique tradition of stone pelting by the masses over each other standing on the opposite sides of bank of river respectively. Many people get injured and some may become permanently handicapped and in rare instances even succumb to death. The fair of gotmaar was attended personally by our team and witnessed the stone pelting incident. Visited all the four medical camps and rural hospital and interviewed the doctors and paramedical staff police personals posted over there. We have interacted with local residents to scan the historical background behind the prevailing tradition. The legal avenues and complexities in the tradition were tried to be evaluated and discussed accordingly.
