Penetrating chest traumas are highly lethal injuries and those surviving to hospital have an overall mortality approaching to 80%. Reported mortality statistics vary broadly and are awfully dependent on mechanism of wounding and internal organs involved. Despite considerable advances in pre-hospital care, operative techniques and intensive care management, the mortality has not changed over several decades. Here we present a case report where a contract worker working on railway track, sustained a penetrating chest injury by a metal piece.
