The study is conducted to ascertain the pattern of occurrence, incidence and type of Intra cranial injuries of fatal Road traffic Accident victims.
This Study was conducted on bodies (n=100) coming for medicolegal postmortem examination to Department of forensic medicine, S.V. Medical College, Tirupati, and associated hospitals during the period of January 2012 to June 2013.
Males domination prevailed (85%). In scalp injuries, the contusions (51.59%) topped the list. In the skull fractures, linear/fissure fractures (37%) are more common. Middle cranial fossa (44.4%) fractures were common as anterior cranial fossa (44.4%). More cases of subarachnoid (42%) and subdural haemorrhages (41%) were recorded.
Road Traffic Accident is the commonest cause for head injury. Avoiding injury puts a challenging task ahead us. It is essential for a general hospital to be established with the proper equipment and trained medical and paramedical personnel to manage a case of head injury effectively
