In this study it was developed a colorimetric loop mediated isothermal amplification-based assay for detection of phytoplasmas associated with sandal spike disease in the East Indian sandalwood trees, offering a promising alternative for rapid and accurate detection. This sensitive molecular tool will provide a reliable diagnostic approach for sandal spike disease, facilitating research on its transmission dynamics and landscape epidemiology, while enabling rapid screening of high-quality planting material - key measures for mitigating the disease spread and conserving the economically valuable sandalwood trees.
