This study presents phytoplasma infections in king chilli (Capsicum chinense) across the major growing districts in Assam, India, from 2022 to 2024. Symptoms observed included little leaf, witches’ broom, and severe stunting, with disease incidences of 19.34% in Golaghat, 17.09% in Jorhat, and 13.32% in Sivasagar. Phylogenetic tree analysis and virtual RFLP analysis using iPhyClassifier indicated that the phytoplasma present in king chilli is classified within the 16SrVI-D subgroup. These findings highlight the significant phytoplasma threat to king chilli cultivation in Assam.
