Phytoplasmas are emerging plant pathogens causing significant yield losses. The Ayodhya region in India has become a hotspot for ‘Candidatus Phytoplasma australasiaticum’ (16SrII-D). In recent years molecular assays identified this phytoplasma in 18 plant species from Ayodhya region with many findings being first report in the world. This highlights the host adaptability of these phytoplasmas and emphasizes the need for effective management strategies.
