Root (wilt) disease is a one and half century-old devastating disease of coconut producing flaccidity, yellowing of leaves and necrosis. In recent years another disease of coconut, is spreading in southern Kerala, the mid whorl yellowing disease. The primary symptoms of the latter are drastically different, like rapid mid whorl yellowing, abnormal shedding of nuts and flowers, drying of inflorescence and spadix and lethal decline similar to the lethal yellowing disease of coconut.
