Translation: A Limitless Discourse

Translation means the process by which meanings are conveyed from one language to another. It is essentiallya cultural study in which atext from source language (SL) is conveyed into a target language (TL), seeing that the connotation of the two is to an extent the same. This study reveals that though translation appears to be a lingual act, it comprehends cultural transfer also. Just as culture denotes semblance, translation exhibits cultural empathy. The article attempts to bring out the importance of translation on human expanse at different times and places in the world in general and in Indian context in particular. Renaissance in different regions of the world was an outcome of translation. This analysis brings forth that translation is a window on the world, enriching and expanding the resources of the target language. This article talks about the role of translation in Indian context in particular, that is endotropic (or Indian language into another) and exotropic (Indian language into English), explains the commencement of translation in Indian history and describes that translation playa a vital role in the widening of literary ambit through multilingual inception.
