Abstract

Sita holds the seeds of ecological understanding and spiritual enlightenment within herself and she symbolizes a balance with the environment. Her tie with nature is inherent and it signifies the perfect unity of the human spirit with the natural world, which can be observed in her spiritual attitude towards Nature. Sahu portrays Sita’s life in a way that is congruent with the principles of Ecospirituality because her actions mimic the natural processes of creation, sustenance and dissolution. She goes through her daily activities in a very careful manner, thereby fulfilling the adage that human life exists in harmony with the natural ecosystem. Thus, Sahu’s representation of Sita corresponds to the indigenous Hindu spirituality that perceives the gods in natural phenomena and calls for a harmonious life with the surroundings. Thus, the paper talks about how Sita imbibes, practises and perpetuates the principles of Ecospirituality and how, she is preaching the concept of oneness with nature. The paper will also draw similarities between the Hindu philosophical teachings and spirituality and Ecospirituality.
