Family plays a very important role in the life of a person. The type of family life that he sees around him generally shows him the type of role he is expected to play in the family as an adult. This article is an attempt to point out the patriarchal agenda of good behaviour. The article shows how different communities see men and women in families, what is being done to preserve the set ideals and how things are changing. Social structures as seen by an individual around him generally lead to gender indoctrination. A change can be seen due to spread of knowledge and increase in awareness leading to acceptance of non stereotypes.
