Abstract

In con temporary times, the lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender are reckoned as taboos, whereas in ancient times, they were never judged and given equal status. In current times, a lesbian or a gay is seen through a lens of rejection, and being one is a crime. There are some extraordinarily inventive scientists and sagacious authors who became victims of this ruthless and vicious mentality which society had towards such people. The laws that are made against this group are more severe than the crimes that are actually felonious. According to Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code, unnatural sex is illicit and is a culpable offence. Although the ancient society speaks about many homosexual, bisexual and transgender entities, from the mythology and the ancient literature, we can draw a conclusion that homosexuality was not obnoxious in those times. For example, in Mahabharata, there is a mention of Buddh and his partner, Ila or Sudyumna, Shikhandi and Lord Krishna being a transgender. Even in Roman and Greek mythology, this group is given identification. So, it's the need of the hour that the society should acknowledge their quest for identity.
