Abstract

There are a lot of questions that can be raised regarding the selection of chapters, stories and poems in NCERT books from classes VI to XII. The difference in the guidelines (words) and practice (through the stories, poems etc.) is so wide that as a teacher one questions the values we are trying to give to our children. This paper would question the logic behind inclusion of certain chapters, poems in the syllabus of the children at the impressionable age of 11 to 16. In the name of pluralism, equity and equality, independence of thought and action what is being served to young minds is not what we expect from our children. Indeed it is felt that this gap is leading to many troubles as our teachings are different from our expectations, leaving the children in a state of complete confusion.
