Abstract

Representation has always mattered for the marginalised. Representation through a medium that strongly connects with the youth helps in giving the ultimate allegorical messages as well as works in helping the misguided at an age where they question their identity and grapple with the parts of their selves which do not fit into the societal norms. In science fiction for teenagers, we see a promising rise of LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) characters. One interesting example with such characters is Alexander London's Proxy series. Following is an analysis of the characters, their symbolic representation as socio-economic structures, and what sets them apart from other characters of the usual dystopian novels.
