Those young small scribbling hands, never dreamt to become a great poet or to be honoured with the title of “Bulbul-i-Hind” by then President Rajendra Prasad.
Also called “The Nightingale of India” with her impressive words, gained respect from everyone, whether politicians or ordinary people. An quintessential poet whose poetry was of utmost worth in English Literature.
“I shall now request Bulbul-i-Hind, the Nightingale of India, to address the house not in prose but in poetry”, said the Chairman of the Constituent Assembly in 1946.
She openly wrote about the urge for freedom, women education, freedom for women, practice of child marriage, sati and caste system. Her poetry was a true reflection of her reformed nature, willingness and determination to work for the country. Her poems were mainly on problems of women, future of India, her dreams for her Motherland, freedom for everyone and many more. ‘The Indian Express’ printed an article on the famous words of Sarojini Naidu-“Sarojini Naidu: I am only a woman, only a poet”.
