Friendship and love as major themes in the select indian campus novels

Abstract

College campus is a kind of miniature society and the characters not only deal with the issues which are related to education but they also come across the social and cultural issues. The conflicts imbibe better understanding, judgment and evaluating potentiality among the characters of the contemporary Indian English campus novels. In the campus novel, parents are either non supportive or indifferent towards the love life of their children. The novels of Chetan Bhagat, Soma Das and Harshdeep Jolly depict friendship and feeling of love among the three prominent facets students, parents and teachers give us a glimpse of the state of mind of the characters which often prove to be beneficial in their holistic development. Campus life amidst the bonds of friendship remain exciting and the action continues to thrill, motivate and entertain us. Life inside campus is thus reflected in an interesting manner in the process of communication, interaction and boding of varied characters. They come to terms with realities of life and learn to challenge the situation or let it pass as it is. Their understanding develops and they learn to tackle things in their own stride.
