William Golding’s Freefall deals with the psychological conflict of Young Sammy Mountjoy, the protagonist, who feels lonely in an indifferent and therefore hostile universe and he bows down to an oppressive sense of cosmic nothingness. According to Freud, the psychological conflict is due to the impact of unconscious behavior and experience and thus could be cured by making conscious their unconscious thoughts, thus gaining insight.
