Abstract

The plethora of unrequited questions in contemporary culture regarding the status of digital literature. Several scholars and experts approve that digital literature is a modern unconventional method that does its work of challenging it on the exterior or in opposition to the predictable norm. In light of the digital future, the perception of the avant-garde may appear thoroughly out of date. Significant theorists have asserted that the experimental method is no longer viable for old-style media and art practises. On the other hand, twentieth-century modernism's modern method made claims about the purpose of art that are still astoundingly influential today – both within the art community and within popular culture. As Peter Bürger and others have reasoned, a significant schism arose in modernism over whether art should strive for formal modernization or for sociopolitical change. The twentieth-century avantgarde took positions ranging from pure formalism (e.g., the abstract Expressionists) to explicit political action. While the digital literature public is generally committed to formal innovation, some are unconvinced, partly because (technological) innovation has become a byword for the digital culture industry. Notwithstanding the fact that the modernist difficulty can still be seen in some digital art and digital works today, writers such as Jason Nelson seem to be moving beyond that discussion.
