Abstract

India is the one of the oldest and in various accounts the wisest civilizations in history. However, our fascination with the west has resulted in the stagnation of our thought process and curiosity. The new generation has lost faith completely and has become alienated from our culture whereas the older generation is still stuck up on the ancient and dated rituals refusing to evolve or bring change in the ways of their thinking. Indian culture is hybridized and a stage for many religions. Indian culture is also filled with orthodox ideas and taboos. Since time immemorial, many of these taboos have stuck with our culture and have become an ingrained part of our cultural identity. Taboos are different in different region and religion. However, there are various common taboos in our culture. Most of these taboos are not social problems hurting masses but generally revolve around two people and their personal relationship. The involvement of the society into personal matters of people shows how we as a society are obsessed with having a control over everyone's lives. In this paper, some of the societal taboos and hypocrisies have been discussed with the help of the web series called “Sunflower”.
