Repellency, toxicity and fumigant activity of two aromatic plants Majorana hortensis Moench. and Jasminum officinale L. against Bruchids

Abstract

The long term application of synthetic insecticides will have adverse effects on the living organisms which are present in the environment and also have impact on ecosystem. The present study focus on the effect of essential oil Majorana hortensis Moench. and Jasminum officinale L. which has insecticidal, fumigant, repellent property on one bruchid, Callosobrochus masculatus (F.). The oils were analyzed using gas chromatographic technique and the were studied for their repellency, fumigant and toxicity efficacy. M. hortensis showed a better result in repellency, mortality and toxicity at lower concentration.
