Value addition of Seabuckthorn (Hippophae salicifolia D. Don): A success story from Uttarakhand Himalayas

Abstract

Value addition of medicinal plants produce/raw material by following good collection practices and creating primary processing, post-harvest management facilities at primary collection or harvesting sites is important for producing quality medicinal plants raw material and concurrently generating livelihood to local/tribal communities. Here, a success story of National Medicinal Plants Board, Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India's supported project on value addition of Seabuckthorn (Hippophae salicifolia D. Don) fruits and livelihood generation to women self-help groups in cold desert areas of Uttarakhand Himalayas have been discussed.
