Abstract

Centella asiatica (L.) Urban, locally known as jalbrahmi is an ethanopharmacological plant used as herbal medicine in India for centuries. Based on its pharmacological and economic value, this plant ranks third on the priority list of key Indian medicinal plants. Additionally, global demand for its raw components is always growing. The present study aimed to study the phytochemicals, antibacterial and anti-dermatophytic activity of C. asiatica leaf extracts. Phytochemical analysis of the solvent extract of C. asiatica leaf indicated the presence of important secondary metabolites. Antioxidant activity of the extracts was determined and the crude extract exhibited antibacterial and anti-dermatophytic activity. These results reinforce the traditional usage of this plant as a medicine and possibilities as a future drug.
