Abstract

Medicinal plants have been explored to possess a variety of secondary metabolites that are used to cure diseases and prevent infection without any side effects. Catharanthus roseus is one such significant member with medicinal properties from the family Apocynaceae. Our investigation on the present study focuses on the methanolic leaf extract of C. roseus and to explore its medicinal, specifically wound healing properties. The non-toxic property of methanolic extracts of leaf of C. roseus was demonstrated by MTT assay using L929 mouse fibroblast cell line studies. Scratch assay was performed with L929 cells for 0-24 hours which showed cell migration towards the wound after the incubation of cells with leaf extract of C. roseus. The present study confirmed wound healing properties of C. roseus leaf extracts as demonstrated by traditional medicinal practice.
