Abstract

The berberine content in root and stem bark of Berberis pseudumbellata was estimated using Reverse Phase-High Performance Liquid Chromatography (RP-HPLC). The comparative assessment revealed significantly more berberine content in roacy habitats samples. The berberine content varied significantly both within and among habitats samples, and across the populations. The populations at low altitude possess significantly more berberine than that of high altitude. Large size class of plants possessed high content of berberine as compared to smaller size. Summer season plants accumulated more berberine as compared to winter, significantly.
