Abstract

From the methanolic extract of seeds of Nigella sativa (Rananculaceae) by eluting with benzene- chloroform (5:1), a new oleanane type triterpene was isolated. On the basis of NMR (1H & 13C) and mass spectral studies the compound was characterized as 3-hydroxy-olean-12(13)-ene-28-oic acid.
