The tuberous roots of Decalepis salicifolia (Bedd. ex Hook.f.) Venter (Syn. Utleria salicifolia Bedd. ex Hook.f.), a critically endangered and endemic medicinal plant with very narrow restricted distribution, have been investigated. The volatile oil obtained after steam distillation was processed further and yielded a pure compound. The isolated compound was characterized using IR, MS, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and identified as 2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzaldehyde. This is the first report of occurrence of this compound from this plant.
