Phytochemistry, ethnobotany and pharmacology of Swertia chirata

Abstract

The genus Swertia Linn. consist of annual and perennial herbs. It comprises 170 species. The medicinal usage of Swertia chirata is reported in treatment of fever, killing worms, regulating blood sugar level, appetizer and in skin diseases. Its medicinal properties are mainly due to the presence of gentian. This article highlighted the ethno botanical, phytochemistry and pharmacological use of the plant Swertia chirata.
