Abstract

Oral cavity of human being is full of micro-flora, viz., bacteria and fungi. Oral swab was collected from 100 healthy persons and cultured on blood agar media. Effect of aqueous extracts of Azadirachta indica, Mentha arvensis var. Kosi, Achyranthes aspera and Catharanthus roseus was tested for their efficacy in preventing oral bacterial growth. Popular commercially available tooth paste was used as control. Most effective results were obtained from Azadirachta indica and Achyranthes aspera in comparison to the control. The extracts of other two medicinal plants also showed good results.
