Abstract

Babchi (Psorolea corylifolia L.) is an important medicinal legume whose general cultivation is limited because of its seed dormancy. Among the methods employed, mechanical puncturing with hot water treatment recorded highest germination (87%) with 12.38 rate of germination, 6.21 mean daily germination, 1.24 peak value and 7.69 germination value. Mechanical seed coat puncturing recorded highest seedling vigour (2859) and produced more usable transplants (91%) with more emergence rate index (3.30), whereas the sulphuric acid treatment for five minutes produced high viability (93%), relative dry weight (1.37) and took less time for imbibition (17.67 h).
