Ecological analysis of Hedychium spicatum Buch in temperate region of Garhwal Himalaya, Uttarakhand, India

Abstract

Hedychium spicatum is a known for its many medicinal uses. Due to great market potential of the plant, it is harvested in uncontrolled way causing the decline of the herb from its natural habitat. Presently, this plant status in the nature is not good. Thus is need to ecological studies for its conservation and protection in natural habitat. Thus the present investigation aims to study the natural populations of the medicinal plant in the Garhwal Himalaya with respect to, distribution pattern, habitat and various ecological characteristics as well as soil attributes. The results of this study are anticipated to helpful in developing long term conservation strategies for the medicinal herb species
