Abstract

Lilium polyphyllum D. Don ex Royle (white lily) of the family Liliaceae, is a threatened medicinal herb. Underground bulbs are source of steroid glycerides, used in the treatment of hyperdipsia, intermittent fever, haematemesis, rheumatalgia, bronchitis and general disability. The plant shows a narrow range of distribution, found in temperate regions of Himalaya extending to Afganistan. The populations of white l ily are vanishing at an alarming rate, due to over-harvesting from its natural habitats
