Abstract

Andrographis paniculata, medicinally important due to its immunological, antibacterial and hepatoprotective properties, is commerciallycultivatedinhotteranddrierpartsof thecountry. Highmarketdemandforitsrawmaterialshasinrecenttimes ledtospreadof itscultivationareas. Duetowarmingof climate, midhill regionsof Himachal Pradeshhavebecomepotential areas for its cultivation which entails analysis of its performance under these newer regions. Studies have revealed that maximumper plant dry shoot (0.32g) anddry root weight (0.038g) under openfieldconditionsasagainst 0.43gand0.152g, respectively under green house conditions is produced under the study conditions. Amongst growing media, sand was observedasbest mediafor seedgerminationparameterswhilesoil: vermicompost (1: 1) for better growthunder greenhouse conditions. Green house conditions excelled over open conditions and is suggested for its higher production under mid hill conditions.
