Abstract

In the present study, seed macro-morphological features of 12 species of Swertia were studied using light and scanning election microscopy. Seeds showed considerable variation in the size, colour and seed coat. Scanning microscopy showed 6 types of spermoderm pattern. Using seed morphological characters along with spermoderm a tentative key for species identification was prepared.
