Inconsistent environment frequently imposes constraints on growth and development in crop plant. Heavy metals like Ca-+ is readily taken up by the roots and induces physiological changes and causes potential threat to the crop plants. The role of Ca ++ as a secondary messenger in plant possesses including the response environmental stresses is we II documented There is very little information available on the involvement of Ca ‘- + and Ca + - binding protein in Vigna radiata (L) Wilczek. With this view a study is undertaken in vigna radiata on the effect of ca-+ stress on antioxidant enzymes and CaH signaling during early stages in this crop. The experiment was conducted on mung variety vigna radiata type -19. Results showed that GPX activity was minimum at 0 hrs but increased subsequently with germination upto 48 hrs. SOD activity was found to be minimum an decreased upto 72 hrs and decreased at 96 hrs. Similarly influence of diff. concentrations of Ca-+ and Ca ++ ions are on growth parameters and antioxidant enzymes revealed that Ca-+ inhibited germination during the initial stages. but at latter stages there was no effect of Ca ++ concentration. it was also noticed that GP X activity increased due to Ca-+.
