The present investigation was carried out in mungbean to estimate variance components, the amount of heterosis for seed yield and its components, and to isolate the better crosses for further study. To achieve these objectives, 15 lines (females), 4 testers (males) and their 60 possible crosses were evaluated. The analysis of variance for various characters revealed that the variation among the genotypes was highly significant for all the characters. The heterosis study revealed that the phenomenon of heterosis was of general occurance for most of the traits. The cross T-44 × Pant Mung-4 and PDM-11 × N. Mung-1′ showed highest seed yield per plant and exhibites high heterobeitiosis (348.63%.) and useful heterosis over N. Mung-1 (206.99%). The mean squares due to parents and crosses were highly significant for all the character. The crosses ML-5 × Malviya Jagriti and HUM-S × N. Mung-1 were best for days to 50% flowering.
