This paper contributes river basin planning study of the Baitarani sub-basin using Source software of eWater, Australia. The models were simulated, dividing the sub-basin into six sub-catchments; (1) Champua (2) Kanjhari (3) Anandpur (4) Remal (5) Salandi and (6) Akhuapada, for six different scenarios under 3 sets; baseline scenario-with and without current infrastructure developments, with ongoing projects completed, 2021 and with proposed projects completed, 2051 without and with impacts of climate change for wet and dry spells for 2021 and 2051. The simulation of model study showed that average annual water availability in the sub-basin is about 5, 642 MCM based on the data range 1988–2012. Water regime as an environmental flow (EF) is considered at the rate of 30% (Lean), 25% (Non monsoon), and 20% (Monsoon), within the river to maintain flow requirements for ecosystem. The Climate Change models unveiled water availability as 4, 939 MCM and 9, 378 MCM for dry and wet spell extremes respectively. Also, the wet seasons are expected to be wetter and dry seasons are expected to be drier along with more frequent extreme events such as floods (more rainfall in less duration) or droughts. The present study envisages that by 2051, the water demand necessary for agriculture to sustain the food requirement of the population growth will be 62.5% of average annual water availability) and the water demand of the industries and drinking water will be 11% of average annual water availability. In concordance, the study is expected to eventually promote new and more comprehensive efforts mobilized in the sub-basin and envisioned that as the sub-basin approach is fully implemented, the unit will provide priorities articulated in greater detail.
