Tiruppur area water quality is deterioration due to the release of textile industrial effluent into the Noyyal river. The aim of present study is to analyse the physio-chemical parameters and heavy metals in ground and surface water of Noyyal river during 2007 and 2013. It was done according to the standard procedures of American Public Health Association (2005) and the permissible limits for water quality parameters are analyzed with BIS standards. The concentration of water quality parameters is beyond the permissible limit during 2007 as well as 2013, but the concentration level is lesser in 2013 as compared to 2007. The surface water quality parameter analysis results revealed that the maximum concentration of chloride, sodium and potassium at Dharapuram location. The quality of water in open well and bore well reflects high level of industrial pollution against major water quality parameters at Kodumanal and Avinashi road respectively. Bore wells at Murugampalayam Panchayat, Andipalyam and Avinashi Road reported Iron concentrations more than the permissible levels during 2013 making water unfit for the drinking purpose. The study concluded that the available surface water and ground water parameters are above the permissible limit, so it is not suitable for agriculture and drinking purpose.
