A study on export performance of garment industry

Abstract

This paper deals with the export performance of garment industry in Tirupur taluks of Coimbatore district of Tamilnadu. Knitting industry in Tirupur has emerged as a premier supplier of value added items earning high foreign exchange. In the last few years, there has been a phenomenal change in technology. Now, a large number of sophisticated computerized knitting and embroidery machines, full-pledged processing units, individual machines for stitching, compacting machines and other machinery required in the knitwear manufacturing are being widely used. Moreover, the exporters who are now focused on value addition attempt to gain a competitive advantage in the international knitted garment market. In the last few years, the exporter have invested considerably in machinery to make value added product.
