Abstract

A field study was carried out for two consecutive years i.e., 2007–08 and 2006–09 to evaluate the efficacy of novel Insectioidal formulations against root borer, Emmalocera Depresselia Swinhoe in sugarcane. The seven treatments including control were 4 granular Insecticides viz., Fipronll 0.3% GR ® 25 kg/ha, Chlorpyrifos 10 G © 25 kg/ha, Cartap hydrochlorlde 40 @ 25 kg/ha, and Phorate 10 G « 25 kg/ha, and two liquid insecticides I.e., Imidacloprid 17.8 SL © 250 ml/ha and Endosuifan 35 EC © 1.5 lit/ha. The treatment with chiorpyriphos 10 G was found best with minimum mean infestation per cent of 1.38 and 1.74 during 2007–08 & 2006–09, respectively. It was followed by Phorate 10 G with mean per cent infestation of 1.72 & 2.69 during 2007–08 & 2008–09, respectively. The treatments with fipronil 0.3 GR, Cartap hydrochlorlde 4G, imidacloprid 17.8 SL and Endosuifan 39 EC were found with mean infestation of 2.28 and 4.99, 2.77 and 4.30, 2.73 and 4.52 and 2.69 and 5.31 during 2007–08 and 2008–09, respectively. The maximum mean per cent infestation 7.84 and 10.23 was found In untreated control during 2007–08 and 2008–09, respectively. The effect of different treatments on natural enemies showed that the highest numbers of predators’ population was observed in the untreated control with 1.4 during the 2007–2008 and 1.5 during the year 2008–2009. All the insecticides were found toxic to natural enemies.
