Abstract

Seven thousand plants of BC2F3 generation obtained from a cross made between Type 3 and two genes (Xa-27and xa-13) pyramided line PR106P2 were evaluated phenotypically for dwarfism and physico-chemical characteristics of basmati rice. The population was also screened for confirmation of transfer of both the genes (Xa-21 and xa-13) responsible for BLB disease resistance using Molecular Marker Assisted Selection method. About two thousand dwarf plants were obtained which were further evaluated for basmati characteristics. Confirmation of transfer of both the genes (Xa-21 and xa-13) in such selected dwarf lines was done using molecular markers namely pTA-248 (Xa-21) and RG-136 (xa-13) in laboratory. In hundred selected dwarf plants, both the genes Xa-21 and xa-13 were present.
