Abstract

Fifty years (1958–2007) of rainfall data of ZRS, Chianki has been analyzed to understand the rainfall characteristics of Palamau region in relation to its variability, distribution and probability of occurrence by using coefficient of variation and probability for appropriate crop planning for the region. The drastic reduction in rainfall has been observed during recent decade (1998–2007). In this context, there is need to characterize new cropping system and selection of suitable crops for the region in the changing scenario. The study revealed that upland crops can be sown and rice and vegetable nurseries can be prepared from week no. 25 and onwards. Pulses and oilseeds under rain fed condition should be completed in the week no.41 on residual moisture. Week no. 44 is the optimum time for sowing and transplanting of vegetable crops for Rabi season.
