A field experiment was conducted during 1997–98 at Student Research Farm of C.S.Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur to study the effect of intra -row spacing of leucaena on growth, yield and economics of maize under varying levels of zinc and sowing methods. Results data revealed that growth attributes of maize viz; plant height, girth of maize plant and number of functional leaves per plant at different growth stages significantly increased at intra-row spacing of 100 cm as compared to intra-row spacing of 50 cm. Application of zinc @ kg/ha and uniform planting method also recorded significantly more growth attributes of maize viz; plant height girth of maize plant and number of functional leaves per plant at different physiological growth stages than no zinc application and paired row planting method. Grain (13.67, 13.94 and 13.91 g/ha) and Stover (41.97, 43.77 and 43.40 q/ha) yield of maize, collar diameter and biomass of leucaena was increased significantly with intra- row spacing of 50 cm, uniform sowing method and application of zinc @ 25 kg/ha as compared to intra row spacing of 100 cm, paired row planting and no zinc application. Maximum gross and net return were obtained at intra-row spacing of 50 cm, application of zinc @ 25 kg/ha and uniform sowing method, however, minimum gross and net return were obtained in intra-row spacing of 100 cm, no zinc application and paired row planting method.
