Abstract

Endophytesareorganisms that can intimately colonize the nutritionally enriched and protected habitat of plant roots interior without causing any disease symptoms on the host plant. This root habitat is known to be reservoir of nitrogen fixing plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR). Transferring fixed nitrogen or improving nutrient uptake by plant growth promoting rhizobacteria can enhance crop development. In the present study nutrient use efficiency was studied in rice by inoculating IAA biosynthesis pathway defective mutants ofendophytic bacterium Burkholderi acepacia strain RRE-3. Inoculating affect of rhizobia was investigated to studytheuptake of minerals N, P and K, and to assess the potential of auxin productionas possible mechanisms of plant growth promotion in the beneficial Rhizobium-rice association. The results of enhanced nutrient uptake are being discussed
