Plant parasitic nematodes (PPNs) are responsible for severe yield losses and crop damagesworldwide. Plant parasitic nematodes like root lesion nematodes (RLNs) of Pratylenchus genus are of great economic importance as they infest large number of crop plants including cereals, vegetables, bioenergy and other food crops. Presence of Pratylenchus genus RLNs is recorded in most part of globe including Antarctica. However, in comparison to other PPNs like root knot and cyst nematodes less attention has been paid to these RLNs. Even sometime their absence in field is neglected. It is essential to understand the basic biology of these RLNs for proper differentiation and development of effective controlling measures. In the present review some basics of these RLNs like host range; life cycle and reproduction are being summarized. An optimized and tested screening method for these Pratylenchus genus RLNs is also discussed.
