Study on socio-phychological, socio-economical profile and constraints faced by the sugarcane growers in Meerut District of Western Uttar Pradesh

Abstract

The present study was carried out during the year 2013–14 in Meerut district of western Uttar Pradesh. To know the socio-economic profile and constraints faced by the sugarcane growers. It was observed that most of the sugarcane growers belonging to the medium age group 31 to 50 years. The education status of most of the farmers were up to high school and most of the belongs to general caste, they had 5 to 8 members in a family, living in nuclear family system, the land holding size was medium 2 to 4 hectare, most of the farmers having medium dairy, pucca animal shed, improved agricultural implements, transportation facility as like cycle, electricity at home and at farm both. Most of the farmers were found to utilized radio and television as information sources to gain knowledge about sugarcane production technology, most of the farmers were not any institutional membership. The major constraints faced by the sugarcane growers were found to lack of knowledge about improved IPM practices theses were ranked in first, less number of production unit and storage facilities of bio-agents in rural areas. It was ranked in second, old information/communication technology in government extension system. It was ranked in third, lack of information about bio-agents, bio-fertilizer, bio-pesticides etc. It was ranked in fourth.
