Abstract

Mutations were induced in six cultivated and wild barley accessions by gamma rays. A large number of mutants for various plant characters including plant height, panical length, maturity period, tillering ability and grain colour were isolated from M2 treated populations. Some of them, particularly dwarf and early maturing types are promising. Mutation frequency and spectrum are maximum and minimum in accessions EC-312415 and K-272, respectively.
